You have some strings whose only known property is that when you light one end of a string, it takes exactly one hour to burn. The material of the strings is not homogeneous and hence they don't burn at a constant rate. Each string is different.
How do you measure 45 minutes?

pick two strings.. For one string, put it on fire at one end and for second one burn it from both the ends... when second string burns completely it will be half an hour and first string would have half hour more... now fire it at both the ends... it will burn for 15 more mins.. thats it...
